Migraine Treatment

Treating by Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicines.

The idea that Qi is a life force energy that moves through the body through channels called meridians is the foundation of TCM theory. These channels, some of which meet in the head, carry blood and qi. Stagnation and blockages in one organ system can influence other organ systems. Stasis and deficiencies in the liver, spleen, and kidney, which cause yang energy from the liver to rise to the head, are thought to be the root cause of recurrent migraines.

Phlegm can build up in these organs from eating the wrong foods and alcohol and spicy foods can make too much heat energy. To quench liver fire and get rid of phlegm, a typical TCM treatment plan might use herbs and acupuncture points.

Through its natural analgesic effects, acupuncture can alleviate migraine pain and help prevent future attacks by resolving these deeper organ system imbalances.
